Meet Our Statesmanship Liaison, Renae Dyer!

Renae is the mother of five children and has been home educating since 1992. She grew up in the military (and then married into it) and has travelled and lived throughout many cultures both in the United States and Europe. She and her family have settled and been living in Utah for the last 20 years. Her hobbies consist of reading (usually 3 or 4 books at once), quilting, needlepoint, family history, and playing with her grandchildren.

Renae has served in several volunteer positions with various homeschool organizations over the course of the last 20 years, all of which she has grown and gathered experience from. She got involved with AYLI in 2006 when she started a Statesmanship Club in her area. She fell in love with the program and working with the youth. “It is truly inspiring to work with the great courage and leaders that are forming in the youth of today. They give me great hope for our future.”

Renae is currently serving AYLI as the Statesmanship Club Liaison. She hopes to be able to help other people get involved with the Statesmanship Clubs and share her love for them.

Meet Our Treasurer, Rosie Ferguson!

Rosie lives in West Jordan, UT with her husband, David, and their five kids, and they’ve been a homeschooling family since 1997 when their oldest child was three. Their homeschool methods and curricula have varied over the years, but their emphases have always been on civics, leadership education, and following their children’s interests.

During 2007-2008, the Ferguson family spent a year traveling around the United States,
learning about the history, science, and people of this great country. Some of their favorites include the Redwoods; St. Augustine, FL; Atlantis Space Shuttle launch; Wright Brothers monument; Washington, D.C.; and fireworks over Lake Erie, as well as the many friends they made around the United States.

The Fergusons first learned of AYLI after returning to their home state of Utah. Through
this inspiring organization, their kids have been involved in Knights of Freedom, YASA, and Statesmanship Club, where they’ve performed many hours of service, learned leadership skills, and participated in Mock Trials, Simulations Week, Knights of Freedom Summit, and Liberty Bowl.

The 2011-12 school year has brought some changes to the Ferguson Homeschool, as the two oldest kids are participating in the show choir, a cappella choir, and the school musical at the local high school, while continuing to study at home for the remainder of their courses.

Rosie is excited to be a part of the AYLI board and to serve you and your children as AYLI Treasurer.

Freedom Bowl 2012!

Freedom Bowl last week was a great success! Everyone did very well and learned a lot about our nation’s founding. It was impressive to see how knowledgeable the youth were on the American Revolution and The Constitution. We had six junior teams and three senior teams compete for a total of 36 youth! We hope to see our numbers continue to grow as they have the last few years. The pictures below are the two first place teams in the junior and senior divisions.

Meet Our YASA Liaison, Beverli Haroldson!

Note: We’d like to introduce you to our volunteer Executive Board. Watch for bio’s of them in the coming week.

Beverli loves life and learning! She is the mother of two and has been home educating for eight years. She a songwriter, composer, piano teacher, aspiring author, Shakespeare mentor, CERT team member, taekwondo black belt, cancer survivor, and nature lover. She served a mission for her church in Belgium, where she learned to speak Dutch and gained an appreciation for people of many different cultures and backgrounds. She earned a BA in Linguistics and a graduate certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from BYU.

“The clubs of AYLI have played an important role in the education of my children, and it has been a pleasure to serve as YASA Liaison for the past two and a half years.”

Family Dance Postponed

We got the unfortunate news that The Apollo Dance Club has had to shut it’s doors a week shy of our Family Dance Fundraiser. Another casualty of the current economy I’m sure. It’s too short of notice to find another venue for next week, so we have decided to postpone until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience. We’ll let you know when we’ve found an alternate location.

Announcing The New AYLI Site

Our new web site has arrived! Take a minute to tour around and get familiar with our new digs. This site was developed as the first step in launching AYLI as a national organization. You will notice that there is a National Site and a site dedicated to Utah. As new AYLI chapters register in other states, their state sites will become active. If you are interested in starting AYLI clubs in your area, please email us at aylipresident@gmail.com.

We are also excited to unveil our new logo! We wanted a logo that symbolized all our clubs, events and AYLI mission. Our tree with blue leaves represents the growth, strength, creativity and wisdom that we hope all the youth and club leaders that we serve experience in AYLI clubs and events.

A huge thank you to the very talented Steve Smith who designed and built our new site! It has many exciting features that we will highlight in future blog posts.
